At least he is talking about these difficult feelings openly, and not just stewing about them privately only to spring some really awful midlife insanity on you later on down the line.
As you discern on your engagement date, I think you should first focus on living the faith together especially if he wants to be a Catholic. You will then discover your true calling to married life, together!
