The Nicene Creed has the words "One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic church. Do you not realize that only the Catholic church has been around since the time of Christ? How does one feel saying “Catholic”? These four words are the pillars of the Catholic faith.
Do you just shrug it off and pretend these words are invisible?

I never gave it any thought at all until I reverted back to the Catholic Church. When I was growing up, I just went through the motions at Mass and said the responses I was supposed to say without really understanding any of it. That was due to bad catechesis in the CCD program. I would suspect that many people in the pews do the same, just say the prayers because they are supposed to, without understanding why.

I think Protestant’s who recite the Nicene Creed during their services probably view the term catholic by its broad definition, meaning universal.

The Catholic version of the Nicene Creed uses lower case, too.
