Where Are the Bishops When it Comes to These "Catholic" Politicians?

It seems to me that almost every nationally-prominent “Catholic” politician seems to be pro-abortion, pro-embryonic stem cell research, pro gay rights (even gay marriage), etc. I’m speaking of people like Nancy Pelosi, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Joe Biden, and others. At every turn, they support legislation and policies that are totally contrary to the teachings of the Catholic Church. They create scandal because they lead good Catholics into error and they give non-Catholics an incorrect understanding of what the Catholic Church really teaches. And the Church seems to say nothing or do nothing in response to the scandal that these “Catholic” politicians create. Just last week, Ms. Pelosi responded to a question about her being Catholic and pro-choice by saying that the Catholic Church isn’t clear as to when a fetus becomes a human being. What? I thought it was very clear–**at conception! **So what are non-Catholics supposed to think when most prominent Catholic politcians say things like this? Where is the response by our bishops to the scandal people like Ms. Pelosi create?

The Apostles had no problem publicly correcting and admonishing those who tried to steer people in the church toward false teaching. If the bishops are confronting these scandalous phony Catholic politicians, I sure haven’t heard about it. Where are they?

Thank God for Bishop’s who step forward and defend the faith. We need more like them. Did you notice that not a single California Bishop made the list? I wonder why.

I looked at the website for the Archdiocese of San Francisco which is Nancy Pelosi’s home diocese and for some reason Archbishop Niederauer will making a statement on Sept. 5th. Better late then never I guess. Also, its not clear if the statement will be released to the media.

Very good video response!! I do believe he made the Church’s position quite clear! 👍

I think that what many people forget…is that when “politicians” speak…they are saying what they want “others” to hear. Its often said that the words “honest & politician” = an oxymoron. Its readily known that a politicians first and primary concern is their career. Otherwise…why would we have the laws and nonsense that we do now?

It is surmised that Archbishop Niederauer is withholding his statement until September 5th in order to give him time to speak with Nancy Pelosi in person, since he is her bishop.

Archbishop Niederauer has the opportunity to make a significant contribution to the effort to end abortion; we can only hope he has the wisdom and courage to take it. It is simply undeniable that Pelosi (and many other Catholic politicians as well) are not in full communion with the Church because of their stance on abortion. Given the publicity Pelosi’s comments have received, and the responses and corrections they elicited from some very high profile bishops, there could hardly be a better opportunity for a teaching moment than this.

If Archbishop Niederauer does this by the numbers, counselling Pelosi first, then, if he states that she should not present herself for communion, it will encourage (and pressure) other bishops to take similar actions with their wayward charges. It is, after all, way past time the bishops acted as if all of this mattered.
