Where can I buy a real rosary?

I’m sorry, the Sisters of Carmel in Colorado Springs are in schism, not approved by Bishop Sheridan of Diocese of Colorado Springs.

There used to be a letter on the Diocese website about the sisters. However, the website was redesigned, and the letter is gone. I’m a longtime Coloradoan, with friends in Colorado Springs, who tell me the situation remains the same. The sisters are not in communion with the Bishop, hence, not in communion with the Holy Father.

😃 I was going to post the same question, but I didn’t think it would be nice of me to tease Edwest2!

I’m wondering if by “real” he means “masculine-looking”?

My husband makes beautiful Rosaries, BTW, and he has a very masculine-looking Rosary made with plain black beads and plain crucifix.
 
I was only pulling his leg!

My Rosary is a wooden one,hand made of olive wood from Bethlehem. It doesn’t have a corpus, but it is very sturdily made and has lasted 3 years of constant use and storage in a very full handbag!

I have two lovely Rosaries that my great grandfather brought back as souvenirs from the First World War as presents for his wife and baby daughter (my grandmother). They weren’t Catholic, and didn’t really know their significance, but when I converted my grandmother gave them both to me and I had them blessed. I don’t really use them much because I’m afraid of breaking them.

I have them make me two, one for a gift and another for myself as well as had them fix two antique rosaries. The sisters do excellent work. And yes the rosaries are real. 😃
 
I’m concerned that if you buy one on eBay, it might have been blessed at one point, and I don’t think you can buy blessed objects…

You can certainly pay for the materials and labour that went into a rosary, and the cost of it being posted to you, whether it is blessed or not.

What you can’t do is pay more for a blessed rosary than you would for the same one unblessed - ie you cannot pay for the privilege of the blessing itself.

It’s like the stipends for weddings and baptisms. You don’t pay for the sacrament itself, but you can and should certainly pay for incidental costs associated with it - the time spent instructing you beforehand, the electricity used to operate the lights, sound system, and air conditioning during the ceremony, extra cleaning that may have to be done for the church afterwards etc etc.

To clarify, I’m not looking for anything but a traditional rosary. A simple wood beam - style cross made of silver, with a corpus on it that doesn’t look like really bad sculpture, that is also silver.

LOL…that was my first thought when I read the thread title. 😃

I know we all know what Ed was meaning, not so much a “real” rosary as a more “traditional” one…

Still made for a great laugh though. 🙂

I think it is so cool to make your own. My son gets his first rosary in first grade. ( next year) they give them cheap plastic ones. It would be cool, we could make one together and talk about it as we make one. Do I have to get it blessed? 👍
