Christians (and catholics for that matter) say that sex and intercourse is appropriate and allowed only in marriage. I have asked where in the bible does it mention that? Priests have told me that nowhere can it be found in the bible nor did Jesus say it. My question is - where then did the doctrine come from?

You mean apart from natural law? Start with Genesis 1&2. Then see “Thou shalt not commit adultery.”

Anywhere that it says fornication is prohibited, which is a prohibition of sex before marriage (see the above bible verses mentioned). I am rather shocked that these priests said its not biblical (either they had extremely poor formation or a better explanation is sadly that they reject the truth that was taught to them and follow more secular leanings). I hope you have found better information here.

first of all, to say that chastity is not found in scriptures is a blatant lie.

secondly, from a Catholic perspective, it is not enough to say that sonthing isnt a teaching because it is not in the Bible. Sacred Tradtiton passed down from the apostles and the Magisterium guided by the Holy Spirit have just as much authority on faith and morals as the scriptures do.

Chastity is all about behaving appropriately to ones state in life. It would have different connotations for one’s state in life single, married couple, widowed. priest, or religious.

It is distinctly mentioned several times in the Bible Sirach 7:24, Sirach 26:15, 2 Cor 11:2, and Titus 2:5 in addition to those citations already given.

If it weren’t for your post, I, too, would be bashing this priest pretty heavily right about now.

I wonder if this was the same priest who said the correct rendering of Isaiah 7:14 is the term “young woman”, as God couldn’t possibly bless Isaiah with the gift of prophecy.
