Bible school is the way some people learn how to share and evangelize .

Where and how. Did you learn to share your faith?

This forum is about the shariest I get. I’m not one to go around preaching my faith. Trying to live it in public, yes, talking about it, no.

I think most attempts at evangelization are pretty intrusive and not well received by their targets unless the target has sought out such evangelization by going to a prayer meeting or a church.

I’ve learned the most about Catholicism from Catholic Answers Live. Various other progams on The Stations of the Cross radio station are good too, but I don’t know what any of them are called.

Some thoughts.

There are different types of formation:
  • doctrinal (including the Scriptural bases, core doctrinal stuff, Trinity, Commandments, Moral Theology)
  • spiritual (forms of prayer, ways to get spiritual direction, difficulties in the spiritual life, how to develop a lively interior life, making resolutions, doing periodic examinations, struggles with sin/vices)
  • human virtues: how to use and develop the human virtues…why/how these things can help your life (work life, family life, etc.), and
  • apostolic formation: how to share your faith.
we need to pursue all of these types of formation until we die.

Some people jump right to apostolic formation…and that can lead to problems. They quickly gobble up some apologetics book and then they think they’re off and running…and then things go sideways for a variety of reasons.

I’ve learned about these types of formation through my association with Opus Dei, whose purpose is simply to provide these types of formation to anyone who wants them, at no cost/charge. One need not even be Catholic to seek this formation. It exists to provide formation to people who can’t seem to get this type of formation from their parish or diocese, or by a roll your own program.

The interesting thing about bible school. Is people observe . praying with results on a daily basis. Revelation healing. Tongues and interpretation. Prophecy.

Then students say wow. The bible is real and yields results.
And turn into a Evangelical

Yes it has a sort of trendy, immediate, you-don’t-have-to really-accept-Jesus’s-words-about “pick up your cross daily”, that Jesus told us about effect on the young and ignorant. Mumbo jumbo, be healed instantly.

It’s the lite version of “accept Jesus as your personal Lord and Savior”…accept Him…but His actual words…well we don’t have to accept that stuff about the Cross, about “abide in me”, “finish the race” (St Paul), the narrow gate…that’s all too Catholic!

God does most of His work in the quiet of our hearts, nudging us to say yes to Him more often.

That’s where the real miracles occur.

Good point.

And one day they pray and don’t get what they want, or God doesn’t seem to answer.
And if they don’t have any more to their faith than that,
They give up on it.
