Where do human instincts come from? Are they made by God or are they acquired?

Wouldn’t instincts be biological? Like adrenaline, or other chemical reactions to fight or flight stimulation.

Instincts could even be the result of evolution. Those who are afraid of heights may live longer…that sort of thing.

It’s what used to keep us alive. Your ancestors who happened to think it was a good idea not to eat putrified food passed on that tendency to all your other ancestors. Now we call it instinct.

Animals have instincts. Human beings have knowledge they pass on.

Infant suckling isn’t “passed on”. It’s an instinct we have at birth as is grasping…left over from our primate days when we had fur to latch onto! Grasping is a weaker instinct as it’s no longer useful but stroke a newborns hand and they instinctively will grasp your finger. 😉

I know you don’t. But…it’s where we got the instinct nonetheless. You don’t seem to think we even HAVE instincts. We do. Another one is if you stroke a baby’s cheek it will turn to that side and start rooting (seeking the nipple). Instincts are there to help us survive.

Did someone teach you to snarl when you were angry? To be afraid of snakes? To suckle? To cower when scared? To avoid bitter food?

All animal instincts, Ed.
