Curious, is there anywhere in the Bible that explains where our Guardian Angel goes when we pass away…? Is their work done…? Do they return to Heaven…? Thank you for your thoughts…!

Good question.

I hope to meet mine in Heaven if only to give him a big hug, buy him about 10,000 Angel beers, and thank him for watching out for me and protecting me despite my years of abject stupid decision making.

I thought we would meet up with them inthe Kingdom of God, to praise Hi together.

I’m reading a book on Purgatory right now talking about the consolations of the Church Suffering. One of those consolations is the presence of our guardian angel helping us get through the pains of purgatory. They stay with the soul until that soul is before God in paradise.

After that, I imagine they either go back to worshiping God, or go on to guide some new soul on Earth. I don’t think there’s ever been a definitive statement on that. I’m not sure what I think, though, given that the Angels serve God and would be happy to do His will, it’s not odd to think that they would go back to helping a new soul.

I’m pretty sure Aquinas said they go back to heaven. We get to spend eternity in heaven with them praising God, assuming we end up in heaven. I’m pretty sure they dont go to any new soul, we all get our own as our angels were created at the beginning of time so have been waiting all this time for our birth…that’s love hey. They agreed to love us then.

Today at mass Fr’s homily had a saint (sadly I forget which one) who spoke of a Guardian Angel who said to his charge at death something about farewell but not forever ie after purgatory. Sorry for my poor memory of names.

They retire! 🥳 If we are in Heaven, they spend eternity partying with us. If we go to purgatory, they pray for us until we join them in Heaven. And if we go to Hell, they spend eternity shaking their heads at us. 😇

But seriously - I don’t think the Church has specially stated what happens, as this has not been part of Revelation. But most theologians believe they don’t get another soul. Most believe there is at least one Angel for every human in history and every human yet to come.

God Bless 🙂

Where does my Guardian Angel go?

I suspect to the Guardian Angel bar. Every night after he tucks me in. He needs a few stiff drinks to unwind from the stress of guarding me every day…

Tell him to tell my guardian, “What up?”. I can imagine the stories they can share.

Do non Catholics have a guardian angel? Do non Christians? Just curious…thanks.

Every person born has a Guardian Angel that stays with them till they die. This is regardless of religion: atheists get one also.
Is their work done…? Do they return to Heaven…?
An Angel only ever serves as Guardian to one of us.

I believe those in Purgatory are permitted the company of their Angels to console them during their suffering.

Those who reach Heaven enjoy the company of their Guardians through eternity.

And the Angels are of the Host of Heaven. Of course they’ll be in Heaven once their work in the world is done.

I think we will be very dear friends for eternity. This makes the most sense.

People in Heaven are constantly at work (and constantly at rest), so angels and saints are always doing good in some way.

Wonderful poem by soon to be canonized saint, John Henry Cardinal Newman, Dream of Gerontius.

http://www.newmanreader.org/works/verses/gerontius.html

Just a snippet, from the guardian angel’s perspective at the moment of Gerontius’ death (but do read the entire poem):
Angel

My work is done,
My task is o’er,
And so I come,
Taking it home,
For the crown is won,
Alleluia,
For evermore.

My Father gave
In charge to me
This child of earth
E’en from its birth,
To serve and save,
Alleluia,
And saved is he.

This child of clay
To me was given,
To rear and train
By sorrow and pain
In the narrow way,
Alleluia,
From earth to heaven.

My angel will be in rehab. I can just hear my angels first greeting to me, “What were you thinking?” or “You were such a pain in the wings!”

But honestly, it would be so cool to see or hear all the times they intervened and kept us safe. What really happened, how close were we to real danger? How much of a role do they play in the miracles we receive? So many questions, just if my mouth is not taped shut while I’m in Purgatory! Y’all pray for me lol.
