Where do you draw the line with talking with our deceased loved ones?

Hi,
My Mother who was a believer in Jesus as her Lord and Savior, passed away.
While I understand that we should not communicate with the dead, where do you draw the line with talking with our deceased loved ones? We ask the Saints to pray for us.
I believe my Mother is with Jesus.
