Until I got married, I thought PB always went in the fridge once opened lol. I had to read the label when dh told me, and then I saw that it doesn’t say refrigerate after opening. When I make pb and j sandwiches (actually I do PB and apple butter, but anyways) I stick it in the freezer a little while before I eat it because I like cold pb and apple butter sandwiches.
I would keep ‘natural’ peanut butter in the fridge just as I do tahini. But Kraft or Skippy or JIF? Cupboard all the way.

Lo, oh yeah, I’m talking JIF etc here, I didn’t try the natural till recently, but yeah, natural and tahini go in fridge, though I only used tahini for hummus when we were on a hummus kick, and we are no longer on that kick. 🙂

We keep our butter in a covered container on the counter, that’s just how I grew up. Never, ever have I tasted rancid butter. 🤷

When DH and I were dating, he lived with two roomates and I spent a lot of time at his apartment. At first, I got along really well with his one roomate, Dave. I started bringing my own butter over there because nobody there bought it and I liked to use it on my food when I was there. I had it in a covered dish and put it up in a cupboard. Every time Dave found it in there, he stuck it in the fridge. Then when I’d find it in the fridge, I asked him nicely to leave it in the cupboard. Next thing I know, it ends up in the fridge again. This went back and forth resulting in a HUGE battle between the two of us. It was not pretty, but now, over a decade later, me and my sil get a huge laugh over it. 😃 I had a pretty good chuckle when I saw this thread, lol…

Wow, seven pages about butter! I say it goes on the counter, and I’m from a dairy farming family too. Having said that, though, I live alone, so MY butter is in the fridge. Actually, I use it so rarely at home that I barely use it up unless I do some baking. The only time I use butter at home is for when I have a nice loaf of homemade bread fresh out of the oven. Of course, when that happens, I can use refrigerated butter because I cut the bread when it’s still hot enough to burn my fingers… you know, it smells so good, I can’t wait to try it… and so it’s hot enough to melt the butter as soon as I put it on there, and the refrigerated butter is fine. When I get married, though, the butter is going to go on the counter again.

COLD peanut butter???!! How do you spread it?
We refrigerate our peanut butter too. We use “Jiff” ever since the PB recall <supposedly, it’s never been part of any recall>; smooth or chunky… it stays soft and spreadable, even in the fridge! 😃
