Peter,Here’s how I would describe it: Catholics don’t teach that it’s okay to worship Mary, so asking a Catholic “Where in the bible does it say that it’s okay to worship Mary?” is like asking “Where in the bible does it say that it’s okay to beat your wife?” (Same, I suppose, with asking a Protestant “Where in the bible does it teach that it is alright to rebel against the authority of the church which Christ established?”)
After understanding your intent, I think you are spot on with this. There is a difference between asking, “Where does the Bible say we should worship Mary?”, and, “What Bible references does the Catholic Church point to to support veneration and invocation of the BVM?”
The first question, as Publisher informs, has the intent, or at least the effect, of driving deeper the wedges of division. The second, if done in true charity and desire for understanding, allows for honest beliefs to be expressed, and discussed.
