Can’t find verse in the bible , probably book of revelation where it is written that God will show us our true name . Is there something like this in the bible ?

Apocalypse (Revelation) 2:17
Nope. That’s not what that verse means.

***He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who conquers I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, with a new name written on the stone which no one knows except him who receives it.’ *(Revelation 2:17)

The name on that stone is the name of Jesus, not the name of the person receiving the stone.

That passage is part of the message to the Seven Churches, specifically the Church in Pergamum. Pergamum was the center of worship for many pagan gods and had temples where people worshiped the Roman emperors. The white stone was marble which was quarried nearby. All the pagan temples were built with this stone and all the temples had the name of the pagan god or emperor inscribed above the entrance.

The verse above means a new temple - a new Church. It is the Church build on the Rock which is Peter. The name on the new temple is “Jesus.” Only Christians understand the holy name of Jesus.

Revelation 3:12 tells us what the name is. It is the name of God.

He who conquers, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God; never shall he go out of it, and I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem which comes down from my God out of heaven, and my own new name. (Revelation 3:12)

Thanks for the education, Tim!

I think it still fits, though. Whenever God gives someone a new name in Scriptures, it is a name that fits their mission; He calls them to a new mission. Our mission is to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ, so if we are given a new name, it could only be in relation to that mission. We are all called to become little Christs.

He is our God, He is our mission, and therefore He is our new name. He is our new identity, as He transforms us into His image.

But the historical setting is really interesting to know and understand. Thank you!

That is a legitimate interpretation. Others would say that the new name refers to the rebirth of each Christian in Christ - so a symbolic new name for each Christian in Christ. Either way, most would agree it is related to “newness” that comes from Christ.

Those who say the name on the white stone refers to the rebirth of each christian are completely making that up. They are ignorant of the history of Asia Minor at the time the Book of Revelation was written.

The major problem in the Book of Revelation was emperor worship. The temples in the city of Pergamum were all made of white stone and had the name of the pagan god or emperor inscribed.

This is a picture of the ruins of one of the temples today.

This is a model of the “Great Altar of Pergamum” referenced in Revelation 2:13, where the "Faithful servant Antipas’ was martyred and where “Satan dwells”, made entirely of white stone.

The name of the god or emperor was on the white rock of the temple. The name on the “white rock” of God’s temple is Jesus.

There is no verse in the Bible which speaks about all Christians receiving a new name or a true name. We get our name at Baptism when we enter God’s covenant family and become a child of God.

Our bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit.

***Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, which you have from God? You are not your own; *(1 Corinthians 6:19)

We bear the name of Christ, the mark of Christ in our flesh. The name on our bodies which are the temples of the Holy Spirit is “Jesus Christ.” We get the name “Child of God” at baptism.

There is and can be multiple layers of meaning to each line of scripture. Catholics have a both / and ,view of scripture.
There is never just one reading of scripture verses. Each verse can have spiritual, literal, symbolic and personal meanings.
Tim H take is perfectly valid as are the other takes on those verses. As long as it doesn’t contradict the Faith.

Saying that the name on the white rock is a new name given to Christians ignores the historical basis behind the Book of Revelation (literal sense) and is not good exegesis. It is made up, complete nonsense.

Scripture can have multiple layers of meaning but this isn’t one of them.
