Where is the link to Peter?

I don’t quite understand the link that the Catholic church claims to Peter. I’ve done much research and haven’t been able to find much that really clarifies my inquiry.

I understand what Christ said to Peter, but don’t understand the linkage between Catholicism and Peter.

If anyone can help me with this it would be much appreciated.
