Where to find information that would help my dd understand the Mormons (her best friend) and be able to answer questions from her friend

We have a highly intellegent dd (15) who, although she was raised Catholic, has a hard time defending different beliefs of the Catholic Church. Her friend is a Mormon and her other friend is Prostant of some kind. They sit together at lunch and talk about their churches. I am a bit afraid that they are “fishing” so to speak.

My dd is an avid reader and I am looking for a book that was written by a Mormon who converted to the Catholic Church because I think this would also help my dd understand her friend as well. Her question this last week was on the validity of the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

Isaiah Bennett was a Catholic priest who converted to Mormonism, and then returned to Catholicism. He has written a couple of books:

“Inside Mormonism: What Mormons really believe.” and “When Mormons Call”.

Our Church is having a course now and it is held for 3 hours on Sunday for 4 weeks.

It’s a wonderful course on the Catechism of the Catholic Church and it presents the Sacraments as what they are, graces from Jesus. Each of the Sacraments are prefigured in the Old Testament and fulfilled for us by Christ in the New Testament.

I would wager that defending her faith in these lunch time discussions with other friends is very healthy in maturing her faith, and will give her purpose and direction in her study (with your support and discussion)

I would suggest knowing the Catechism as the top priority, well above reading books that focus on **‘bashing’ **another faith. Also, some of these books have severe errors in their portrayal of true doctrine.

The Catholic church teaches one must be true to their conscience. If your daughter is learning what others believe and remains true to her conscience she will be ok.

Dont fear outside influences from people who best they can seek G-d. This time has much worse influences from the secular world.

Maintain you relationship with her with open discussion, don’t argue what you don’t understand and even what you do but enquire together. Go seek other sources together ie research on the web looking for various bias and discuss all things in the light of “how can this be true” rather than “how i can prove this wrong”.
If you pray together keep it going and if you can more. Move away from traditional wrote prayers and try to simplify prayer as much as possible. The foundation of prayer Mathew 6:9 (pray to the G-d Jesus (pbwh) did as he taught) is very true and does not upset any other religions.
It would be good not have an environment that encourages her to seek whats wrong with Catholicism her friends will do that well.

Now if the Catholic church is right with her teaching on conscience even if your daughter converted G-d can still do great things through her He may even have a very special purpose for her. The “doctor is sent to the sick”.

I feel you are a great foundation for her so have faith Our Father can do all things and always wants best for us.

Luke 18 assures us He answers prayers of His will.

I would second this recommendation. Bennett’s book Inside Mormonism is very thorough and helped me understand Mormonism, its attractions and its errors, when my brother converted. It’s a thick book, but an interesting read.

For a single book that is fairly objective, and has some humor as well : Mormonism for Dummies

I would second this recommendation. Bennett’s book Inside Mormonism is very thorough and helped me understand Mormonism, its attractions and its errors, when my brother converted. It’s a thick book, but an interesting read.
