I am currently mentoring a 14 yr old foster child, that is in a group home, with the possibility of fostering her. The last time I met with her I learned that she had been sexually active. I spoke with her about the risks and told her that next time she goes to the doctor she needs to tell the doctor, get testing for STD’s and get the Gardisal (sp?) vaccine. I recommended the vaccine because she is at high risk of becoming sexually active again (very weak morals and very low self esteme).

I explained to her that in California she can get all this without her mother, group home, social worker, etc knowing.

I am considering taking her to get the STD testing and vaccine done. However, I do not have the financial means to pay for it. I want her to have control of who knows she was active, so I can not get her insurance information. I do not want to have this testing and vaccine done at a clinic that is connected with abortion. Where can I take her for the testing and shot? Also, I am looking for a clinic that will strongly encourage her to not become sexually active again rather than giving her condoms, etc.

I am not doing this to condone her past sexual activity. I am doing this for her long term health.

Seek out your pastor and see what he advices you to do, perhaps they have a private doctor’s practice that will guide her spiritually and help her get through this and understand as well as treat her for her problems…As far as I know those “abortion” clinics are very well at keeping your anynomity-sorry if misspelled no spell checker- but they will help her out with her issues as well and not need her parents…you can just supervise her and hope that they help her without paying…Also if she has private insurance well they won’t contact her parents and keep things under wrap if that’s what you would like…

But I do believe her social worker and parents need to know because if she does catch something then you will be the one responsible where as if you did let them know they will not blame you for her wild side… At least you are showing great support and just explain to her the necessity for her family and social worker to know because the risks are really high for her to catch something especially since you are unable to pay for her treatments…the best thing to do is just be there for her and guide her…

The vacciene is a decision for her guardian, parents and pastor to help her with.

She can get tested at any county health clinic for free.

The county health clinic may just meet the need. Although I will prefer a clinic that would push abstinance rather than protection.

In most states the vaccine is a guardian/parent decission. However, in California any child 12 yrs or older that requests the vaccine must be given it without parental noticification. This is true of any reproduction health services.

You did make me think on the vaccine. Personally, I believe the vaccine should be a guardian/parent decission. So, considering my personal believe, when I take her in I will not mention the vaccine. However, it is likely that with getting tested for STD’s the doctor will recommend to her that she get the vaccine.
