Where to place monetary offerings during the offertory?

This is not a major issue, but I am wondering is there any liturgical text stating where to place the monetary offering at the preperation of the altar and gifts. I recall reading something asking that it not be placed by the altar but elsewhere but am not positive. As a liturgist, and seeking an answer for my rector, I was hoping somebody knew of a source if any.

General Instruction (3rd typical edition, #73):

It is well also that money or other gifts for the poor or for the Church, brought by the faithful or collected in the church, should be received. These are to be put in a suitable place but away from the eucharistic table.

In our church, the ushers put the monetary offerings in a basket, put a lid on it, and it is brought up with the eucharistic offerings. The priest places it on the bottom step of the alter area and off to the side by the flowers. After communion one of the eucharistic ministers takes it away, presumably down to the business offices.

We have the collect collected by our sacristan and a ministrant, if the congregation is large, and the baskets are returned to the vestry.

At my home parish the ushers collect the money put it into a large deposit bag and bring it to the safe in the sacrsty. At my work parish if they collect during the daily mass the baskets are brought up to the front of church and placed on the steps.
