While I recognize that it is impossible to escape the sinful world we live in, can folks recommend places in the continental US that are perhaps most conducive to living a moral life? I have lived my entire life in the moral cesspool that is New York State, and I think I have had it. My wife and I have two small children, and I don’t know if I really want to raise them in this environment. The latest outrage is that the state legislature is considering mandating that all public schools provide “age-appropriate” sex education for all students in 1st through 12th grade, whatever that means. The state also will almost certainly start mandating HPV vaccinations for children; much of the culture in NYS (and hence, schools) embraces the homosexual (and now “transgendered”) lifestyle; the taxes and other living costs are unreasonable. I could go on. While there are Catholic schools “nearby” (15 minutes to elementary school, 45 minutes to high school), I don’t have much faith that they would get a decent Catholic education there. I’m a lecturer in a STEM subject at the local university, where I have gotten quite comfortable, but I am willing to get out of that place and even change careers if it’s the best decision for my family. I’m open to suggestions!

I hear Montana is nice in the fall. Seems like a wholesome place. Idaho is comparably more religious. As for Catholic education, I’ve heard good things about Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio.

I don’t think we should turn against vaccines, though.

Yes. Our Prime Minister has pushed for abortion and euthanasia to be legalised and it’s close to happening.

My public school has rainbow flags on a few doors and some teachers are aggressive to me as I’m Catholic.

My choir conductor flipped out at me and aggressively confronted me because I was Catholic. He told me I was cloudy with deceit and I think he almost got physical because I said I liked President Trump and was pro life! He was incredibly aggressive.

The most prominent words in our national anthem are “God defend our Freeland” and “God defend New Zealand”. I think NZ needs defending from within.

I sometimes think our NZ bishops are the only voices of sanity.

Anyway, don’t want to derail the thread!

God help us all. Our entire world needs prayer and God’s mercy. We need to face the reality of not living like the world and being persecuted. Look at our brothers and sisters in the middle East. If we follow the ways of the world, it’s a wide, wide road. May the Mother of God help us.

No place is “safe”.

And any place that has access to media and internet has already been exposed to the collected crazy of the world.

You make sure you’re living right.

I live in Weirton, WV, about 10 minutes from Steubenville, OH. There is a large Catholic population in the area and several Catholic churches. St. Peter offers an EF mass every week and Franciscan has a Missa Cantata once a month. There are Catholic schools in the area but I cannot attest to their quality of education, either good or bad.

As for moving to this area, while there is generally a good atmosphere for Catholics, the economy is terrible. Jobs here are generally low paying, unless you can get hired at the Walmart distribution center. On the plus side, cost of living is pretty low. I despise the weather here. We get as much rain as Seattle

Exactly. You can’t live in a dream world where the only people you interact with are people who agree with your lifestyle and morals 100% of the time. If you demand that, you’ll always be setting yourself up for disappointment and failure. It’s a battle you can’t win.
