Which apocryphal books does the church use and why?

I understand that there are many apocryphal books and that some were written by the Gnostics and are not to be believed. How does the Catholic Church determine which ones are credible and which are not? What are the credible books please?

What Protestant churches call apocryphal are not always what the Catholic Church calls apocryphal. It is the Catholic Church that determined the original New Testament canon. The following link has the explanation on how the Church has made such determinations.
