Hi CA,

Which Apostle other than St. Peter was the greatest asset to Christianity in your opinion and why?

God Bless,
Rev

I have to say I’ve also got a sneaking admiration for James and John.

James because he was called Brother of the Lord, was present at the Transfiguration, and was the first of the apostles to die for the faith.

John because he was specially beloved by Jesus, the only one of the apostles to be with him at the foot of the cross, entrusted to look after Mary. Also the last surviving Apostle, so instrumental in passing on the faith to future generations through his pupils Ignatius and Polycarp. ALSO favoured with the gift of prophecy and a vision of the end of the world.

Why do we omit St. Peter?
Is he considered to be the greatest?

If he is, then the question should’ve been who is greater.
[tell me if I am picky on this 😃 ]

Truly, I could only say they all are great and each one of them had a unique role as a Christ’s disciple.

For example, have we all heard much of St. Jude in the Bible? No. Nonetheless, his intercessions for the sick and the impossibles are very well known throughout the United States. Personally, with his intercessions, my prayers were answered.

Hey Rev…

You do realize that the Church celebrates the feast of Saints Peter and Paul on the same day, right?

June 29
Sts. Peter and Paul

That should tell you something. 🙂
Pax tecum,

Pax tecum,
You know, if the church of Rome would have traditionally set up a “chair” for both Peter and Paul, then, maybe, Paul would have continued to set Peter straight. 😃 And then, maybe, there would have been no need for a Reformation - a return to the authority of the Scriptures. I’m just saying…

There will always be need for reformation within the Church until the second coming of Christ. The Reformation was more of a deformation than a reformation.
