Which Bible Translation

Which Bible translation would you get for the most accuracy and language similar to the Confraternity Edition (I have a small NT of that and really like it, but have not seen anywhere that sells it in a regular size-something like Amazon would be fine but I don’t do any financial transactions over the internet). I do have the RSV-CE (1 Edition) but it doesn’t have semi-archaic, sacred language. The DR-Challoner that I’ve seen is a huge book that costs a lot (I’m on a fixed income) and am looking for a devotional Bible, that’s also accurate (but not for scholarly purposes) with older, sacred language.

Here, CLICKEROO, is the 1899 Douay Rheims. It’s searchable. Has the old “thee” and “thou” pronouns. Very easy navigation scheme. Includes original notes in red throughout text. Includes original Introduction, Preface, etc.

And it’s online and free!!!

Perhaps you could have your local bookshop like Barnes and Noble or Borders have a copy of the Confraternity Edition shipped to the store and thus be able to pay for it in person. They will do this, as I’ve had them do it several times. Some books are difficult to get in stores, but most anything can be shipped to the store and paid for there.

I was in a chain yesterday called Ollie’s. They had Catholic NRSV’s that had been packaged as gifts for first communion or confirmation for $5.99. I bought one for my own collection of Bibles and will show it to a Catholic friend who has recently converted. If she wants it for herself or her daughter, I’ll just give it to her and go get another one.
