Which Catholic Media Sources Does Your Family Listen To???

Do you have any favorite programs? How often do you listen or watch? How has the Catholic Media Sources changed your families lives?

My personal favorites are Relevant Radio & EWTN TV. My favorite shows are Catholic Answers (Relevant Radio) and the Drew Mariani Show (Relevant Radio).

Here are some of my other favorite Catholic Outlets…

We listen to a local radio channel that uses EWTN for most of our Catholic news.

We read the National Catholic Register and try to not read our diocesan paper.

I agree. I stay away from our diocesan paper also. I do like the National Catholic Register. Also, EWTN is awesome! Also, try Relevant Radio which is now in many states. It is awesome also! If you cannot get it in your state, you can tap into it through the internet on the link listed above.

I enjoy the diocesan paper. it’s a nice way to keep in touch locally. What’s wrong with it?

Well to tell you the truth I have not read our diocesan paper too many times. Therefore others will probably have to give you examples.

However one of the few times I did read our diocesan paper, it really ticked my off!! It happened a couple of years ago. Running for the US Senate Seat for IL was Dick DurBin running against someone with the last name DurKin.

The Joliet diocesan paper ran a multi-page special on this race. They gave each of their views on many of the issues. However the issues the paper decided to print gave a slanted bias to DurBin (a cafetaria Catholic) over DurKin (a non-Catholic but with very strong Christian Values).

The paper omitted DurBin was Pro-Abortion, Pro-Homosexual Marriage, Pro-Embryonic Stem Cell Research and DurKin was on the other side of the issues even though he was not Catholic. Now Senator Dick DurBin is leading the charge to keep Pres. Bush PRO-LIFE JUDGES from being selected to BENCH just because they are Pro-Life. This article really ticked me off & I vowed never to pick up the Joliet Diocesan Paper again!

See, you need to move to the Diocese of Rockford, all you Joliet people. We have a wonderful paper, the Observer. We have a great bishop. Things here are a tad more conservative than in the Joliet diocese. I used to live in Joliet, so I know. Just hop over the border to the Aurora deanery. 😉

I like the Doctor Is In, but only when Dr. Garundi is on. Sometimes, Dr. Kelly-Mast is almost too sweet. It might be my background, but I think a lot of these people who call into this show don’t need sweet. They need a hard line drawn, but in a humorous way.

I like Drew Mariani some of the time, but on other occasions, he has on guests who are more than a little off the wall. Some of the stuff Father Altier says is a bit off the beaten path. Was it last week or the week before when Father labeled all rock music evil, even Catholic and Christian rock, because of the beat (not at Mass, just for listening pleasure)? I’m sure Father Altier never ventured to the web sites catholicjukebox or phatmass. I am sure the folks at EWTN in general and Father Francis Mary in particular don’t share the same views. Then there was the minister who had been an athiest, but came back from Hell after a death experience. I skimmed the guy’s book at Border’s, and found out the guy believed in a form of reincarnation, working on “levels” after death to achieve Heaven. And then there was the dentist who wanted us all to avoid eating anything but the same diet as chimpanzees so our teeth would be spared! Yes, Drew does have an interesting show. It could use some tweeking, in my opinion. Drew IS cutting into Chicago drive-time shows, so that is a good thing. He’s even cut into the Roe Conn Show- not an easy thing, to syphon off WLS.

Both my husband and I watch *the Journey Home *on EWTN. I like Father Corapi, and he likes Father Groeschel. We both like Father Mitch, but then, Father Mitch is from Chicago. What’s not to like?

I just started listening to Relevant Radio (Chicago area). So far, I really like it. I heard Fr. Corapi (sp?) the other day. I also heard a discussion on G. K. Chesterton that was very interesting.

EWTN… Almost everything I watch is my favorite…
This station brought me back to practising the Traditional Catholic Faith…🙂
not that ‘watered down’ stuff some of us have been asked to accept over these past 30 or so years…
