Hey

I’m in the UK 🙂 The churches are full of old people and the parisioners are full of mostly old people… Should I:
A - become a priest for the people that are left going to church?
B - or have 2 Catholic babies to go to church? 🙂
I want to serve God in the best way that I can.
I have a woman that likes me a lot and I could be with her, but on the other hand I could become a priest.
I’m very easy-going and don’t do as well as I could in my exams because of this, but I don’t care so much due to the fact that I’m going to die so examination grades don’t mean much to me, howevern, I will be able to get a 2:2 degree, be qualified in CIMA accountancy exams, and have grade C passes for my a-levels. I will also be able to save up £25,000 for my future family or a good cause if I become a priest.
What would you do in my situation? The UK churches need priests, but they also need people to attend them - we will have neither in the UK in fifty years 🙂

haha - you need a spiritual director, dear. Somebody has to know you really, really well or at least see you in person to give you that kind of advice.

Oh, and I’m not saying this is what you should do, but an SD could be a woman (think “nun”) b/c we DO get men. Don’t seek out the crazy kind of nun, even if you are “crazy”, because the idea is to find someone who is holy.

Not in my parish, Dyl. Or the one I’m staying in at the moment for Easter. or many of the parishes I visit in the course of my religious life.

Hmmm. This kind of negativity isn’t entirely what we’re looking for in the church these days, y’know. 🙂

If you want to be a good and faithful Catholic - which it sounds like you do 😉 - your responsibility is to discern where God wants you to be, and go for it. The future of the Church as a whole is not in your hands, but your own life is. Keep your eyes on what you can achieve yourself in company with God, and leave the rest up to Him in His works achieved through the lives of others.

Best wishes and you’re in my prayers.

Indeed we need all kinds of vocations for the church (including the priesthood, married life, laity, diaconate , religious etc)… so the question becomes what does God want you to do with your life? What are your strengths & talents? Do you have a strong desire to serve the Lord as a priest? I would get a spiritual director… in the meanwhile pray the rosary, keep close to our Blessed Lord in the sacraments & read the scriptures daily.

Your brother in Christ,
Zachary
