Let’s say a Catholic couple has sex for the first time 10 days before their wedding after a two year courtship. Another Catholic “couple” has sex for the first time on the second date. Does anyone here believe that these two are equally fornication?
Advocate,

You ask this question. So I ask you,

Do you see this as a problem?

What does this mean to you?

If you were the participant in either situation what would this say about you?

This is not something I am personally struggling with. I am merely wanted to see if people really do equate the two acts. I see fornication, in the true sense of the word, as promiscuous, casual, recreational sex. In Jesus’ day, marriages were arranged, so prolonged dating didn’t exist—or dating at all.

This is the context of the word “fornication” as used by Paul. The very word fornication comes from the Latin “fornix” which means “arch” because that is where prostitutes hung out to attract clients.
