My husband and I started RCIA in October, and it has brought up some questions, which no one has answered for me.

I have very basic questions, that we don’t seem to be touching on during our classes, like what is a day of obligation?

The classes are good, but I feel like we can’t participate very well, when I’ve tried to answer a question, with what I think is a good answer, I feel as though I’m being told that it is the wrong answer because it isn’t the one the RCIA people want…it would be a valid answer, but that isn’t what they want to talk about so its wrong…

I have asked for help with some of the basic answers that I need, but I feel like those questions are being ignored…

can I ask them here, which forum would be best?

Thanks,
Jamie

I would suggest the Apologetics Forum.

Thanks,

I’ll post them their if I don’t get any answers tonight during class!

THank you so much!

Jamie

I’m not sure what answers you are giving, and why RCIA may not like them, but from my own experience I thought my RCIA classes watered down the faith terribly, probably to make it seem more attractive, unthreatening and user-friendly. And I’ve been resentful ever since.

In the Roman Catholic Church, the Holy Days of Obligation are the days, other than Sundays, on which the faithful are required to attend Mass. The 1983 Code of Canon Law standardized ten days to be observed as Holy Days of Obligation throughout the Church. These days are:
The conference of bishops in a particular country or region may suppress the observance of these days, or transfer it to another day, with the permission of the Vatican. For example, in the United States, the feasts of St. Joseph and of St. Peter and St. Paul are not Holy Days of Obligation, and Corpus Christi and the Epiphany are observed on the nearest Sunday.

If you have questions about the Mass and liturgy, post on the Liturgy forum, about the Sacrament, especially the sacraments of initiation, which RCIA is all about, post on the Sacraments forum. Of about doctrine, post on apologetics. If you have questions about prayer and spiritual growth, post on Spirituality. If you have questions about the RCIA process, what goes on, how the “program” is supposed to work, post on Sacraments. Several people on these forums have been active in RCIA for years and I am sure will be able to help you.
