I am just wondering what about catholicism do some perceive as non-biblical or anti-christian.

JW’s have got be in the running. They think everyone outside their religion is apostate, and in particular the CC.

Let’s not forget the Seventh Day Adventists. They are close behind.

They think the Pope is the anti christ, and that we are wrong for worshiping on Sunday, just to name a couple of things.

I am not a Catholic and i think the reason they make fun of the Catholic church is because they find small things that they see wrong in the Catholic Church because they were not taught that in their church and they think if it wasn’t from their church it is wrong. Some things of Catholicism weren’t taught at my church but i respect them anyway.

If people are good Christians why would they make fun of other people let alone other Christians.

I’d say that the Seventh Day Adventist are absolutely the most anti-Catholic out there. I was a practicing “Christian Only” [Church of Christ] and had a friend that worked under me on various projects. He was from Mexico and talked about and handed me lots of very anti-Catholic tapes and stuff. I looked at him like he was crazy and told him that the anti Christ is anyone that stands against Christ, not just the pope. It seems that their entire belief surrounds fighting the evils of Catholicism. I still consider him a friend but I’m sure he’d attack me left and right now that I’m Catholic.

I am not sure which is the most anti-Catholic, but the anti-Catholic ones all have a large population of Catholics who have left the Church. I would suggest that much of the intensity of their anti-Catholicism is the desire of those who have left the Church to justify their action in leaving. If they, not the Church, are wrong they are in deep trouble and know it.

Nice of you to judge culpability. I left thinking that I’d surely burn in hell if I didn’t join the one true chuch once someone actually took the time to show me the errors of the Catholic Church leaders bad choices throughout history.

Some of us left thinking the above. But if we continue to always seek truth and not accept anything less I firmly believe the God will ultimately lead us back home. For those that don’t make it, we must give them up to Christ for Him to judge, not us. We must pray for them, not condemn them. We must forgive lest we be judged equally according to our own work.

Always remember charity, no matter what. But that doesn’t mean we can’t correct when appropriate. No Catholic knew the Catholic faith to show me the error of my thinking. It took a young lady from the same faith tradition we came out of to help me see the light. Thank you Stephanie!!!

Funny thing, I have a background in the Southern Baptist tradition, but attended mass first. My stepmom is SB and is not anti-Catholic, but holds views about the Church that are completely misguided. I was Church of Christ - the one true church, just ask them.

All Protestant denominations are “anti-Catholic” to a certain degree, otherwise they would be Catholic, wouldn’t they. Protestantism is religion by subtraction, substitution, or outright invention. When I look at these absurd beliefs I get the impression that the Body of Christ was cloned by the Marx Brothers.

…Do they now? And now I know why my coworker who grew up in the CoC gave me such a funny look the other day…

some of the most anti-catholic groups out there are run by ex-priests and an ex-nun.

Mark 9:42
"And if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a large millstone tied around his neck.

Luke 9:62
Jesus replied, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

Many individuals or groups respond the way the do because they have been taught that way. They do not really know the true teachings of the Catholic Church, They only know what they perceive to be the teaching of the Church. Unfortunately, many are not willing to go to the effort of finding out for themselves what the correct teachings of the Church are. They just accept what others have told them.

The best thing we can do is lead by example. Try to live your Catholic faith with respect for others. Educate yourself on the Catholic faith as much as possible. This way when someone does pose a erronous statement of the Church’s teachings you can correct it in a fact-based and civil manner. If you can provide documentation to your beliefs, the truth is hard to dispute.

If you are interested in discovering more about the COC go here. There you will read many conversion stories of former COC members converting to the Catholic Church. This is a miracle in light of what the COC believe and teach. The literally believe that there is no salvation of any kind outside of the one true Church.

My father-in-law was an Elder (bishop in their beliefs), the 2 oldest BIL are preachrs, one is now an elder too. The rest of the BIL are or were deacons. Since the do not believe in ordination anyone can step down at any time. I have 7 BIL. All of us remain in our marriage for life. The idea of divorcing is condemned upon pain of death if we marry again unless the spouse is diseased or the spouse cheated on the marriage. However, it is highly discouraged to divorce even under infidelity if at all possible, especially for the sake of the children and to avoid temptations outside of marriage.

The lady that runs this board presented to me things I learned but never knew Catholics that actually knew it or followed it. These folks are authentically Catholic, more Catholic than the overwhelming majority of even faithful Catholics IMHO. Being a former Catholic seminarian enlightened me into the deep disorders of Church politics. However, marrying into a huge COC (Protestant) family I finally came to understand that people are people wherever you go. There is no circumventing the politics. It’s part of our human nature, flaws if you will. This made me realize the error of what led me away from the true Church, which I believed back then was full of those we knew would go to hell in the end. The COC gets as irritated as Catholics, like myself, when people call them Protestant because they believe they are the fullness of the faith. They call Clement of Rome the first of the apostates which gradually led to the Catholic Church heresy.

If you think about it, it is easy to deduce that the gospel has yet to reach Protestant. They only have part of it mixed in with some very interesting but sad heresies. Solo Scriptura makes no sense when you really investigate it deep enough to learn that the bible never says it holds the complete word of God.
