Which non-Catholic, Protestant Christian religions or denominations, are the descendants of Martin Luther and which are descendants of John Calvin?

For Martin Luther - Lutherans. Ha! So stop blaming us for the supposed 30,000 denominations. 😛

John Calvin? Presbyterians, Dutch Reformed, Arminianism, Anglicanism (indirectly, through the Puritans and “low church” Anglicanism).

Clearly, Calvin should be exhumed and put on trial by the Inquisition ala Wycliffe.

If we convicted him would this mean the people he put through an inquistion and burned at the stake would be innocent? Just couldn’t resist. Sorry

Needless to say, I am not a fan of Calvin in any sense, but Servetus got what he was asking for, largely. I don’t agree with setting heretics on fire, but hey, it was the times.

Not a very good article as it leaves out the meat of the characters. It supports the modern myths concerning these two people. As such it is biased against the Church. It leaves out facts such as Luther’s obessive fears of confession, witches and even storms. In fact he became a priest as a result of fear from a storm to which his own father was reported to state that the devil caused him to become a priest. Fear drove Luther’s theology.

It leaves out that Luther had no issue with indulgences the first time he lived in Rome.

It also leaves out the important fact that Luther came to his theology by reading Roman’s 1:17 backwards.

It leaves out that he was not a noble man as he supported the murder of 100,000 people during the peasant wars. He was antisemtic etc.

The notes concerning Calvin and social reform are absurd. He was a totalarian ruler that executed over 70 people in the small town of Geneva in just five years. In addition he relished the executions. Even placing books on people chest so he could watch the fire burn the person’s face.
 
Luther: Lutheranism.

Calvin: The reformed tradition, or Calvinism. An equally important figure is Zwingli, who disagreed with both these guys on a few things, and contributed greatly to parts of the reformed faith also.

My favourite reformer is Thomas Cranmer though. As an old man, faced with execution he recanted his protestantism. But he renounced that recantation and as he was subsequently being martyred at the stake, he first put his right hand into the fire saying that it had sinned against God (as it signed the renunciation of protestantism).

Anyhow, Calvin - presbyterians, reformed churches, some elements of the reformed baptists and congregationalists too.
 
It would be more interesting to ask who came from Ockham, St. Francis, Will Langley, etc.

For there can only be one Church and that is Catholic.
