Which one of these two artists fared better performing "MacArthur Park"?

Awww. I was hoping you would include William Shatner’s version.

Strange lyrics. The Richard Harris version is way better in my opinion. That being said my mind now substitutes “someone left a K-Cup in the rain. . .”

Hope I didn’t wreck it for everybody by sharing that.

Ha! Being the best version of MacArthur Park is like being the quietest leafblower.

Richard Harris’s version will always be the #1 version for me. Weird Al’s is a close second.

These answers are all wrong.

There is, in fact, no correct answer, as Conway Twitty in his prime would have made them all sound like unemotional schoolchildren.

But it appears he never recorded it.

Elvis probably would have done quite well, but not in Conway’s league for those ranges . . .

And I’d guess that Rea McIntyre probably made a version that caused everyone who heard it to desperately fight over the available icepicks for their eardrums, after which they destroyed every copy . . .

Are you serious? I thought I was joking when I stated “I thought he was an actor”. You can’t believe how far my chin has dropped to hit the ground. You learn something new everyday. Thanks tomarin and DaveBj for the info.

I thought it was a joke at first myself (when I learned that Richard Harris was also the singer of that song).

Yes, it’s the same Richard Harris. He made a whole album called “A Tramp Shining”. It made the charts.

I think part of the motivation was that he was famous at the time for his singing in the musical “Camelot”, but the cast album had been released with another actor singing (although Richard was on the movie soundtrack version) so Richard decided to do his own album. He also happened to run into Jimmy Webb who was one of the top pop songwriters of that era, and Jimmy offered him “MacArthur Park” which he had written for the Association, but they turned it down.

Apparently he also did a spoken word album of recitations of Kahlil Gibran’s poetry - which I would dearly like to find!

I always liked Donna Summer’s version. Strange lyrics though for sure.
“Someone left their cake out in the rain - and I don’t think that I should bake it cause it took so long to make it and I’ll never find that recipe again! Oh nooooo!”
