Which parish do I join?

Hi all,

I am almost equidistant between two churches but there is another one that is a little further away that I think I would like to join.

Do I have to join the parish that I am geographically located in? Just how are the boundaries of a parish determined? (I assume it’s geographically.)

Thanks,
Gene

You are no longer required to go to the church who boundaries you reside in. It is better to go to your official church if both churches are equal in everything, but which church makes you feel “fuller” in the faith?

If one church is a very liberal parish and the other orthodox, I would suggest going to the orthodox parish.

I am in that same situation and that’s what I did. I attend the parish that’s a little farther away because it is far more orthodox and reverent.

To Paul and the “Marauder,”

Thanks for the quick replies!

The church I want to attend has Franciscan priests. Once a month, they have a meeting of the Third Order of St. Francis. And every Tuesday they have a prayer group.

Also, what impressed me was something mentioned on their Web site. After noting the time for confession on Saturday, they also say that anyone in need of the sacrament can knock on the friary doors at ANY time and they will be accomodated. That and a lengthy page on How to Prepare for Confession convinced me that this is the place for me.

Thanks again and blessings to you and your loved ones,

Wow, I wish we had that here! Christ must be thrilled with them. Go there!

Sounds like a keeper to me, Gene! 👍
Grace to you,

Gene,

Sounds like you have a good parish to go to.

I drive 45 minutes to go to a parish that has a very good orthodox priest. This even though there are at least three that are much, much closer (one is only 6 miles away, but is heterodox).

Good luck to you!
