While the study of the phenomenon of Medjugorje continues pilgrimages are now authorized

This is kind of like the official showing up late to the game that’s already over.

“Okay…we can all start now!”

Gee, thanks. That’s real helpful.

The church is deliberately very slow and wait to see the fruits of the Spirit unfold. For example, the dogma of the assumption of Mary into heaven occurred in 1957 I believe. Many Catholics believed before that and finally the church made it a dogma. The church never wants to have to revoke its approval of a meticulous event.

Although this is not a seal of approval, this is big news given the supposed apparitions are still ongoing. The Pope must have taken into account the ‘fruits of Medjugorje’ as they call the frequent conversions of pilgrims. When I was in Italy last year, I noticed Medjugorje gets air time in Italian TV.

I was recently speaking to a religious Priest who celebrated a few of his first week as a Priest Masses at Medjugorje, quite a few decades ago.

I won’t go into his beliefs about this site, but he does say many fruits have been coming from it for a very long time. Whatever else is happening, or not these days, there, the Holy Spirit truly has a big impact on some of those visiting.

I have visited Medjugorje three times .

I have my opinions about it all , and that’s what they are , simply my opinions .

In time the Ecclesiastical authorities whose function it is to discern and test the Medjugorje phenomenon will make their judgement known .
In the meantime , as Pope Francis said in 2013 , " I believe that in Medjugorje there is grace. There is no denying it."

It is that continued outpouring of grace which has led to the authorization of pilgrimages .

May that outpouring of grace continue , and may we submit to the Magisterium’s judgement if we are around when it is made . Some will be disappointed , some will be pleased . It will be our place to obey .

I have a feeling that Archbishop Hozer was sent, partially at least, to provide an authoritative, yet financially and spiritually disinterested party, other than the usual ‘Medj defenders’ to provide alternative leadership and counsel to pilgrims.

Face it; people are going to go there no matter what anyone says. And the rightful authority, the local bishop, is almost universally considered ‘the enemy’ as neither he, nor his predecessor (who was bishop when the ‘visions’ supposedly started) believed the visions were true.

Most reports have said that Hozer is sympathetic to the visions, and he has commented on the spirituality of the place. And no one can deny that he has the Pope’s permission to be there!

Yet he, and others in authority, have said that he is not there to help discern the reality or unreality of the visions. We have not even been told that there is any active investigation going on…just that the first days ‘merit further investigation’.

Medjugorje has almost completely changed the economy. The financial staple has changed, in a relatively short time, from farming to tourism. Also, much money is made on books, trinkets, and chances to watch a so-called seer during a ‘vision’.

I have more information, but most of it is posted elsewhere on these forums. I don’t think there will be an official decision for a long time.

Given that the same amount of people will probably go regardless (private pilgrimages were always allowed), this provides some more oversight. I can see the value to that in a case like this.
