White horses in heaven and how will Jesus return?

How do I deal with a Protestant who feels that Rev. 19:11 & 14 prove there are animals in heaven? With all of the symbolism in Revelations how are we to take the imagery of the white horses?

These verses taken in a literalist fashion seem to contradict Acts 1:9-11 and that the return of Jesus will be the same way that he left.

Will Jesus descend on a cloud as he left, or will he come galloping in on a white horse?

Are there animals in heaven?

The book of revelation should be read as an account of a prophetic dream, not as a literal foretelling of what is to come. Images such as horsemen, or women giving birth in deserts, are a sort of iconography or symbolic thinking. If you ask “how did she wash the newborn baby?” or “what did the horses eat?” there is no answer.

We are told that the coming of Jesus will be obvious and that those who claim to be Jesus, but show only dubious credentials, such as having a a white dress and a few dozen worshippers in California, are not.

The “white horse” is was, and still is, traditionally ridden by a monarch, a general, or some other hero.

This is a symbol of who Christ is, it is not literally how Christ will return.

Ask your friend if he agrees with the Jehovah’s Witnesses that only 144000 will go to heaven since that is what it says in Rev. In that case, they come out of the 12 tribes of Israel, so we are all doomed.
 
And although it is assumed animals don’t go to heaven, we don’t really know that for sure.

Regardless, Revelation isn’t all to be taken literally, as the foreposters have mentioned.
