Edit: The headline gave me the impression wearing the costume would/could be considered cultural appropriation, a Social Justice concept that I loathe and think does much harm in the melting of our melting pot culture…

But the author only pays deference to the issue while pushing that a cross-over hero is a good thing.

I find such claims of cultural appropriation to be ridiculous.
Don’t we want Black heroes to be mainstream heroes to all kids?
It’s an absolutely unwinnable post-modernist fight.

If you partake in whatever’s being celebrated, you’re guilty of cultural appropriation. If you deliberately abstain, then you’re promoting stereotypes and obstructing our progress toward a post-racial society.

There is no position you can occupy where someone with a different perspective can’t accuse you of something negative.

To be fair, the article wasn’t saying it was cultural appropriation. Never did it say white people wearing Black Panther apparel were appropriating.

Well, only if you are cisgender and white.
Tragically, that’s increasingly true.

You are right. My OP was keying off the article title while the detail is supportive of having crossover black hero. I’ll try edit my OP

Anybody…

Anybody can wear a Black Panther mask.

Based on Civil War and the trailers for Black Panther, he’s a totally awesome hero that tons of people are going to want to cosplay as. I just hope nobody gets attacked for being non-black and cosplaying as him.

Also, i09 is a trash site. I used to read them before they completely jumped on the sjw bandwagon. They used to cover stuff like new fossil discoveries and space exploration news.
Now most of their articles are utter garbage.
