Who are the Elect?

The Pope, cardinals during the tribulation?
All Catholics?

I hear Protestants call themselves the elect all the time and use this for double predestination but who exactly are they?

Are they around in every generation or just during the tribulation so there is a beacon of light for the rest of us?

We don’t assume to know who the elect are. Even the saints are a guesstimate
God alone knows .thank God or we’d all go around acting like we’re special.
It’s usually the ones who think they are the elect that are the biggest pests around.

In Calvinism the elect are those who consider themselves elected. It’s an academic point in any case since only God can know with 100% certainty who’s name is written in the Book of Life. From the Catholic perspective God knows beforehand who will persevere and who will not, who will make the right choices. These are the elect, whoever they are.

“The ELECT” in the sense you ask is another term for "saints’ AND “Saints”; its all those who DO attain heaven

Um, the Church teaches that Baptism is an absolute necessity for salvation (baptism of desire and of blood are extensions to this where the grace of baptism is conferred outside of the sacrament at the moment of death).

But yes, the term “elect” can mean those called to baptism, specifically, those predestined to grace. It can also mean those predestined to glory. In either case, “elect” is closely tied to the mystery of predestination.

“Elect” is a synonym for “chosen.” It’s the same “chosen” as in “the chosen people.”

Both Jews and Christians are God’s chosen people. However, in the end, there’s a further distinction, because “many are called,” but many choose not to answer the call. So “many are called, but few are chosen.”
