Who are the freemasons?

I have only heard the name with the thunder and drums bit in the background and once or twice with Anti-catholic attacted to it but other than that I really don’t know who these people are or what they stand for. Could someone be as so kind as to link me into this? Thank you and God Bless.
 
The freemasons were basically trying to revive ancient European paganism. The church has ruled out the possibility of a Catholic being able to join the freemasons, which is why the Knights of Columbus was formed. That’s a really short summary, but check out:

The Masons are a secret society that’s been condemned by a few Popes. If you join them, you’re excommunicated - you can’t be Catholic and a Freemason at the same time. The top level basically worships the devil. They’re one of the Church’s most dangerous enemies. A good book to read is “The Permanent Instruction of the Alta Vendita: A Masonic Blueprint for the Subversion of the Catholic Church”; I’ll send you a link to a webpage that has most of the book if you email me.

To add to what has been said, the bottom levels usually don’t have a clue what they are in for if and when they ever reach the top. However, they do not realize that what they are doing even at the lowest levels are against their faiths. In Freemasonry, religion and politics are forbidden to be discussed. The lower levels are told it is because they want men to come together and not to argue. The real reason is they want the men to be open to accepting their religion. This is well documented in masonry writings, most notably of the founders of masonry. If you start asking questions in Freemasonry that show that you are one of the “smart” fellows who understands how things are really working, then they will work with you to climb the ladder to the next plateau. They will not discuss it unless you ask them and they judge that you are sincere and open to the deeper meanings. Everything is symbolic, and the higher you go the more you are told about the symbolism. They purposefully lie at some stages, though, to make you think you know all there is to know when you don’t have a clue. At the bottom, it is pretty much a bunch of men who raise money for good causes and dress up and socialize. That is why you will find so many people hostile to any hostility toward the masons. The problem is even in their doing this, they are turning their backs on God through various oaths and actions.The purpose, however, of the organization was and remains specifically anti-Catholic and ultimately anti-Christian.

Furthermore, in our own nation [the US], Freemasonry has always been an important political force, but Paul Fisher writes: “It never succeeded in suppressing Christianity until its members dominated the U.S. Supreme Court during the period 1941-1971.” It is interesting to note that the majority of those appointments of Masons to the bench were made by Presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and Harry S. Truman, who were themselves Masons. During that thirty year period, when the Court was dominated by members of the Masonic fraternity, was the epoch when the Court overturned laws which: 1. permitted prayer and Bible study in public schools, 2. permitted Christian creche scenes in schools and on other public property, 3. permitted display of Ten Commandments in public schools, 4. protected Sunday as a day of rest which severely limited trade and commerce “on the Lord’s Day”, 5. forbade obscenity and pornography in the media, 6. penalized fragrant cursing in public and 7. prohibited advocacy of the overthrow of government by force and violence, and a host of other laws which had made this country broadly Christian in its orientation.

Hugo Black, senator from Alabama, then illegally made Justice of the Supreme Court by President Roosevelt in 1947, and his Masonic cohorts controlled the Supreme Court from 1947 until 1971. After 150 years of our Church’s thriving while in a Protestant controlled government, that Court whittled away the protective laws freeing the growth and sustenance of Catholicism in the U.S. Thus “public” was changed to “pagan”. Religious freedom was changed to disbelievers’ freedom. Religious tolerance was changed to irreligious toleration. “No state religion” was changed to “state religion of atheism”. Laws against immorality were changed to laws favoring immorality.

  2. God is portrayed as a deceiver who leads the masses away from the highest Truth, and merely as man conceives Him, the reflected image of man himself, which is the exact opposite of true Catholic teaching, i.e. we are made in the image and likeness of God (not of man).

Do the masons allow other Christians besides Catholics to join? (so long as they don’t talk about it?)

I think at the Evangelical Free Church I attended, you could not be a member of the church & a mason.

The masons will allow any man to join who is willing to take their oaths to be a member. They have a few age and residence requirements, but here is the only real requirement:

b)Do you seriously and upon your honour declare that you are prompted to solicit the privileges of Freemasonry by a favorable opinion conceived of the Institution and a desire for knowledge?

c)Do you believe in the existence of a Supreme Being? **
The last would make one think it was a Christian group. However, the founders’ writings are clear that any men who can in any way contrive within their own minds a “Supreme Being” are to be accepted. And, any man who is an atheist already is preferred if he is willing to lie (a fast track in masonry, for sure).

You can see this clearly when you look at the three basic requirements (which I highlighted in red): you are seeking the mysteries in Freemasonry, you are willing to submit yourself to the institution of Freemasonry and to believe what they tell you to, and they have something to say about your belief in God. It is no wonder that so many religions do not allow their members to join such a group.

Hmmm, short and a bit innacurate. the church forbade freemasonry over a century before the Knights were founded. Fr.McGiveny founded the Knights on Chairty in 1882. Because there was tremdous poverty among Catholics in that era especially those families who lost the wage earner. While Wikipedia may cite alternatives to Masonry as a main reason; it is reallymuch morecomplex than that. Dont forget that at one time Catholics were forbidden to be Freemasons by the Masons as well. Part of Fr.McGiveney’s vision was the insurnace program for which our order most recognized.

Which is exactly the goal of Freemasonry.

Pope Benedict XVI said recently to exclude God from public life is a sin.
 
It’s my understanding that there is a claim that the Bush Family, the current president, his father, his grandfather, etc. Where or are members of the Skull & Bones Society. Which is supposedly a Freemason organization coming out of Yale University.

Anyone ever heard of this?

I tried to keep it short… They compare their Grand Master to Christ. They also stated that anyone praying in the lodge cannot pray in Christ’s name. Also, 32nd degree Masons are inducted in at a Mosque and must swear an oath to Allah on the Q’uran. Go to scripturecatholic.com and read Masonry Unmasked.

It appears you are misinterpreting the point of the passage by taking it out of context. His Holiness was stating that as the goal of freemasonry, and not of the Church. Read the entire document.

To wish to destroy the religion and the Church which God Himself has established, and whose perpetuity He insures by His protection, and to bring back after a lapse of eighteen centuries the manners and customs of the pagans, is signal folly and audacious impiety.
