Coffman’s commentary says we can understand it in two ways. The first is very similar to the above post. We must recognize our spritual desitution. We appraoch the Lord with a spirit of humility unlike the pahrisees that approach God with arrogance. The second way to look at it is to possess a spirit of poverty. Even though we may have wealth of worldly goods, we should act as if we do not have it. We must be ready to resign it without remorse. Coffman points to Job, who said, “the Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away”.
