You are proceeding under an incorrect premise that God chose everyone’s spouse before time began.

Please read Karl Keating’s e-letter:

Well, there’s the old Catholic verse, “Saint Anne, Saint Anne, find me a man…” So there’s that.

St. Joseph is the “marriage saint” that I was taught growing up. My mother’s sister did a novena to St. Joseph that my mother would find a good husband. At the time my mother had pretty much decided marriage wasn’t in the cards for her, but she met her husband/ my dad within a couple months of the novena.

I understand in some other countries, St. Anthony or St. Anne are the “marriage saints”.

You can of course ask the help of any saint you feel particularly close to.

I definitely credit St. Joseph for the gift of my husband. My novena to him ended on his feast day and I met my husband the day immediately following his feast. A lot of tears went into that novena and I certainly feel the St. Joseph helped me rather than chalking it up to coincidence.
