I think sometimes a Saint picks us. In my case Saint Francis de Sales was who guided me when my Catholic faith came under attack by a Protestant friend. After being away from the Church for longer than 25 years, and really never being properly Catechised, it was his book “The Catholic Controversy” that provided me with all the answers I would ever need to properly defend and give reason for my Catholic faith. It is such a great read that uses Scripture along with common sense and charity.
No one but me knew he had become my favorite Saint. On the Father’s Day after my dad had passed away, my mother wanted to give my brother and I something special, a gift that use to belong to our dad. She gave my brother our grandmother’s old antique rosary, then to me a little red felt pouch. I about fainted when I opened the pouch and saw what was inside, it was a first class relic of Saint Francis de Sales!!!
That was no coincidence, it was destiny and part of God’s plan, perhaps a little reward to someone who loves and defended His Church with such love and passion. Thank you Lord, and thank you Saint Francis.
