A fun and light-hearted post. Saints are great, they can be the best teachers in helping us understand the perfect Almighty God, they can be friends, guardians, or all of the above. We often can relate to their past struggles and their spiritual journey.
The Saints I often turn to in times of need are; The Blessed Mother Mary, Joan of Arc, Martin of Tours, Raphael The Archangel, and Jude Thaddeus.
Who are your Patron Saint(s)?

St Michael the Arch angel,

St Joseph

St John Paul11
St Mary of the Cross MacKillop
Blessed Mary Glowery

a couple of first century saints

and of course

Our Blessed Virgin Mary

First, Our Lady and St. Joseph. And St. Christopher and St. Gerard Majella, as these patrons were given to me at birth. But over the course of my life and study, I’ve found myself drawn to many other patron saints, including:

St. Benedict of Nursia
St. John Cassian
St. Romuald of Ravenna
St. Meinrad of Einsiedeln
St. Bernard of Clairvaux
St. Charles de Foucauld
St. Pio of Pietrelcina

St Padre Pio (I remember the news coverage of the celebrations the day before he died and the next day, the coverage of his death and telling my mother that he was a Saint but not yet recognized as one by the Church), St Teresa of Avila, St Teresa of Calcutta (the only other then living person I knew was a Saint). Many of the Saints come to my attention through other Catholics.

Blessed Virgin Mary
St Joseph

From the treasury of inheritance from parents:
St Anthony of Padua
Padre Pio
Brother Andre Bessette
St Marguerite d’Youville

Companions met along the journey:
St Teresa of Avila
St Therese of Lisieux
Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman
St Rose of Lima (parish patron grown to love)
St Adela of Messines

I consider the Blessed Virgin Mary in a class by herself. More than a Saint, she is the Mother of God, our Lord and Savior, Jesus the Christ.

Why have a patron saint?
I’m on a pilgrimage. The saints have passed this way before. They inspire me by their faithfulness, courage, perseverance …

In any difficulty, I am able to recall a trial of one or more of my special companions, and be encouraged to continue this journey.

They share their holy joy!

In the Spirit of the LIttle Flower, I take them ALL!!

(Therese and Catherine of Siena get to be first, though.)

Hard to keep up with! hmmm… I have many favorites, though. I love the saints. For me, the Blesseds count as saints, too. So many to love.

Anyone know who Blessed Chiara Badano is? She’s great. Close to my age. We were born close to the same time.

I’ve heard of her. She’s in the process of being declared a Saint by the Catholic Church. Right now, she is a “Blessed” and was beatified by Pope Benedict XVI on September 25, 2010. Her feast day is October 29.

I’ve never picked a patron saint.
  1. I don’t know how it differs to not having one.
  2. I don’t know how to choose and wouldn’t want to offend one I didn’t choose.
  3. I wouldn’t want a Saint being lumbered with me all the time.

Many who attend Catholic schools and have trouble picking a Patron Saint can ask Sister’s help. In our school, if you asked her to choose for you, she’d choose Mary if you were a girl and Joseph if you were a boy.

I can’t remember “meeting” a saint I didn’t looooove.😻
Usually I just happen upon a biography or someone suggests one; invariably when I’m done, I exclaim: wow, this is the best saint ever (meaning their life is inspiring to me and I have learned something valuable).

After Jesus, they’re the best friends ever!
