Who can administer First Communion?

It does not make sense to add this rule if there is such a loose interpretation of the word “administer”. After reading through the GIRM, the word “administer” like “distribute”. For example, in the GIRM, it states, “The singing is continued for as long as the Sacrament is being administered to the faithful”. In fact, “administer” is found only four times in the GIRM, all used in similar situations.

A priest at Mass acts in persona Christi, he IS Christ. Therefore someone recieving the Eucharist is recieving it from Christ Himself.

This is not true if you recieve from a layperson.
 
My oldest daughter received first Communion today (yeah, my heart runneth over.) This wasn’t with her “class” as we were out of the diocese at that time.

It was made perfectly clear to us when we made arrangements, that it had to be from the Priest, during Mass. It was not, however from our Pastor, it was the Parochial Vicar, who is a relatively new Priest and a stickler for correctness. The Deacon handled the chalice of precious blood, but that is after the host, and thus not “first” communion, I suppose.

My wife and I brought her into the sanctuary and all three of us received before communion was distributed to everyone else.

PS It was literally awesome.
 
Our parish had 1st Communion on three different Sundays and had about 80 kids at each of those masses. We had our Pastor, the Vicar General from the Diocese, and two of our associate priests to give communion to the kids along with their parents and their confirmation sponsors. BTW, in our diocese, we are confirming 3rd graders as well.

Any other dioceses doing this?

The Diocese of Gaylord, MI Confirms a child at the same Mass that they recieve First Holy Communion.

They are Confirmed just after the homily, and then recieve Communion at Communion time.
