What exactly did they do to earn an award? It seems like one hundred percent of known victims were labelled “survivors”, and awarded for …that. Were there any victims who did not get credited as “survivors”? What would a non survivor look like?

I can see giving whatever assistance to, say, accident victims. If one of them goes on to give talks to students, re safe driving, award, sure. But would you give 100 percent of them awards, based on no actions on their part?

I never watch ESPN except college football and some Monday Night Football. I’m not sure what they did to earn an award. I haven’t followed the story closely. I’d guess they are getting substantial monetary compensation from civil lawsuits.

@commenter @Zach
Because it’s incredibly excruciating for victims of sexual abuse to come forward. They faced higher officials at the university who didn’t care and ignored their complaints. IIRC, Larry Nassar only got caught when his victims went public, which I would think is even more frightening to do.

The same is true for Sandusky’s victims. I didn’t see them winning awards. I think these awards should go to individual acts of courage. Let the courts decide what rewards are due to the victims.

Over a million Americans have alleged sex abuse. I’m not saying it’s easy, just that making this statement happens very, very often.
