Who did the Protestant reformers think they were to take books out of the Bible?

Thanks, Pork. There is a Catholic Lutheran dialogue document called Scripture and Tradition, from 1995, but I haven’t read it. It may have touched on the topic.

After bumping into Jon on many threads, I confirm that he does not proselytize anyone towards Lutheranism, or proselytize away from Catholicism, or other faiths.

He is, however, shamefully intolerant of stupidity, hidden unacknowedged assumptions, my own attempts at stealth apologetics/proselytizing, feeble puns, and various kinds of nonsense; but not intolerant of anyone’s own faith.

If he were a chronic government bureaucrat like myself was, he would be more accepting of the ridiculous and the rigid.

Jon, the problem is that many ECF’s when referring to a canon, are actually referring to what would be read in the liturgy. Just because a book was not in their canon, did not mean that the ECF didn’t think the book was scripture. St. Athanasius is a prime example. St. Athanasius, in the Festal letter number 39, gives a list of the canon. Now, of the Deuterocanonicals he does term Baruch as a canonical book. He does exclude the other Deuterocanonicals. And yet in other writings St. Athanasius clearly quotes from the other Deuterocanoncicals and calls them sacred writings and scripture. You can do the same with St. Cyril, St. Jerome, St. Basil, Origen…

Everyone here is entitled to their religion and their views, not just Catholics. Maybe you need to re-read the rules for the NCR forum. No one should have to take off their religious hat here. Just because it is a Catholic forum, does not mean non Catholics have to submit to Catholicism. We are entitled to our beliefs here, Catholic or not.

I have to say that I am growing tired of the attitude that it us Catholicism or nothing. If that is what you believe, fine. However, that doesn’t give you or anyone else the right to push it on others.
