I believe that at least two weeks should past before you conclude that someone is not posting anymore.

On the other hand he has posted 59 times since he last posted here to other threads he has created. I think he is a troll.
So what? Obviously he hasn’t stopped posting in this thread. As I said, there wasn’t enough time to come to the conclusion he was no longer posting. 😛

Yes this is true that the Catholic Church was not referred to as the RCC but only as the CC. But I am correct that Constatine in 312-313 wanted to unite the Roman Empire under a “universal” church thus began the RCC. So I’m not playing name games as you claim.
The word “catholic” is a Greek word that means “universal”. The term catholic wasn’t used, as far as we know, until St. Ignatius mentioned it in one of his letter in the late 90’s / early 100’s. The Church was called Universal because it had the same characteristics everywhere, the same form of worship.

The term “Roman Catholic Church” simply means a Catholic Parish using the Roman Rite. There are many Rites (or liturgical forms, languages, cultures, etc.) within the Catholic Church.

Rome is the Seat of Peter hence it has developed as the governing center for the universal Church. Why is that? Well Jesus said He would build His Church on Peter (The Rock, to whom it was revealed by God that Jesus was the Christ). Wherever Peter is, there is the Church.

Jesus, the True Rock, the Head of the Church which is His Mystical Body, founded the Church. There is only one Church and in today’s language and modes of communication it is called the Catholic Church.

No. Jesus did not hand out name tags to the Apostles and label them deacons & priests nor did he use the word Pope. Jesus did not write a Missal for the Apostles to use for their new religious celebration. The Apostles simply adapted their Jewish liturgical forms to the re-enactment of the Last Supper and centuries later we have the same service. Sure different languages, dress and miscellany but the Mass today is the same as the Last Supper.

I would also add, St Ignatius used this term in a matter fact way. In other words, he was not explaining the term, the people he was addressing obviousely knew what he was talking about. It was already in use inside of the early Church.👍

I wish someone, other than a catholic, would respond to the OP??? This a question directed at non-Catholics.

peter magus founded what we come to know now as roman catholic church. peter of the apostles never entered room and was never killed but died a peaceful death. simon peter the sorcerer also peter magus was the one executed with inverted cross. why it’s obvious that peter never went to rome is because there’s no bible account to back it up, in fact, paul preached against laying on another man’s foundation. it’s only in catholicism that everything contradicts the bible.

some of u claim jesus is the founder of your church, but guess what, i agree as far as it’s the jesus with long hair that’s always potrayed in catholic church. 1st corinthians 11:14…Doth not even nature itself teach you, that, if a man have long hair, it is a shame unto him. lol.

pope john paul 2nd in his first ever homily as “pope” in 1978, in the very speech which will forever mark the beginning of his pastoral ministry Sunday, October 22 1987, proclaimed to the world that “man is christ”> he said that this is the new truth- a new truth which he was here to reveal so that consciences can be freed in the full truth of man, who is Christ.

if the protestants are not following christ, why did you guys start ecunumical movement where every pagan of the world came and prayed for world peace and pope claimed they’re all praying to the same God. lol. Catholicism is a joke and an easy way to assure yourself of hell. don’t get me wrong, i don’t see catholics as brothers or sisters, but i see them as people who need to be preached about the salvation Christ has brought.

it saddens me that after everything Catholics did to the saints, they still come out to claim they are Christians. As far as there’s life, there’s hope, denounce Catholicism or you’ll partake in the wrath of God that will befall her in no time.

It was Jesus along with Saint Peter. I’ll leave it up to you to research but this but here’s a hint, it’s right in the Bible. 👍

You are a rude dude…

Simon the Sorcerer in Acts 8:10-11 founded the CC??? WOW!!! Is this the best non-Catholics have to offer???:confused::confused:

Hi Joe,
In post #20, I said:
As Christ founded the Church Catholic at Pentecost, He certainly is the founder of the Catholic Church, those in communion with the Bishop of Rome, clearly the largest and perhaps the central part of His Church.
Is that a reasonable answer?

Jon

=jmcrae;7210946]No. He wants Protestants to clarify their thinking, unify their voice, and say, "Jesus did not start the Catholic Church in 33 AD. [This person] started the Catholic Church in [this year] and in [this place]. Here’s what happened: [give the history and circumstances of how the Catholic Church started].
If Protestants prove incapable of doing so, then Protestants need to consider that perhaps their version of history is incorrect - that Jesus, indeed, started the Catholic Church, and wants all human beings to be members of it - and to come out of their Protestant churches and join Jesus’ Church, which is the Catholic Church.

Two thoughts:
  1. You incorrectly assume their is one Protestant Church. This has never been the case, as I stated above.
  2. You incorrectly assume that there is a unified denial of the centrality of the Catholic Church in Christian history, or that acknowledgement (or lack thereof) of that centrality somehow translates into a belief that the one holy catholic church ONLY resides in the Catholic Church, those in communion with the Bishop of Rome.
I believe that the OHCAC resides in Rome, and Jerusalem, and Wittenburg, and anyplace else where the word is preached and the sacraments are administered amongst the congregation of believers. Despite the divisions of His Church, caused by human sin, there is still only OHCAC.
Finally, a question: assuming that the OHCAC was started at Pentecost and only resides in one institution, why should I believe that it is with the one Patriarchate that stands alone, over and above the other patriarchates that all remain in communion with each other, and have done so essentially since Pentecost?

Jon

Hey Jon, most non-Catholics will agree with you because they simply call the catholic church (small c) - the catholic church comprised of all churches regardless of denomination, but I know that that is not how you interpret the CC, so yes, I agree with you brother. Thanks for answering my question? 🙂

Through out history the bishop of Rome has spoke the truth. The people of truth have agreed. When the bishop of rome speaks lies the people of truth will disagree.

Do you think this is the position the East took in 1054, and that Lutherans took in 1530?
Did they feel that the Bishop of Rome was wrong (I’ll avoid the word “lies” because that implies a motive or intent to intentionally deceive), and therefore disagreed with him?

Because the one standing alone is the successor of St. Peter, the only one to whom the promise of indefectiblity was given - as we saw most clearly in the Arian crisis, and also at many other times throughout history. 🙂

Based on what? On what basis is St. Peter only of Rome?

Peter’s Papal Successor is the Bishop of Rome. The reason is that when Peter died (at which point he passed on both the role of Bishop of Rome and the Papacy to the next nearest living Bishop) he was in Rome.

When he left Antioch, he passed on the role of Bishop of Antioch to a successor, but that successor did not receive the Papacy, because Peter was still living, and still carrying the role of the Papacy, at the time. Likewise, he did not pass the Papacy on to anyone else, other than the next Bishop of Rome who took over when he died.

Do you have a source for this? Where this is recorded? Where did Peter say this?

Hey Jon, the following is pretty informative; just click on the links below when you are done reading the following, I mean, if you get the chance to read it:

"PAPAL AUTHORITY AND THE PRIMACY OF ROME

What do the Orthodox concede?"

philvaz.com/apologetics/num12.htm

Jon, please do…

Unfortunately I do not have the source, but read many years about about a Protestant scholar who spent 27 years and finally realized there was never a break in the apostolic succession, although we had schisms and some pretty bad popes. Leo X is the new one I heard about, the one who caused my pastor the greatest revulsion.
