Who has been excommunicated lately?

I have seen the site on excommunication and I have read about threats of excommunication used in past centuries. But I have never known anyone who was excommunicated. Has anybody? If so, who (description not name), why, when, and who did the excommunicating?

People excommunicate themselves. The Church merely attests to the fact.

I know of a priest who was notified of his excommunication (as was the public) by his Ordinary* about a year ago, for celebrating liturgical and sacramental rites at his newly formed “church”, and for having refused all offers of reconciliation extended by the Diocesan Bishop.

(* Actually, the notification came from the Vicar for Canonical Services for the Diocese, under the authorization of the Bishop)

I hope he may one day be reconciled to the true path.
