It would be nice to go to one source and find rebuttles for all the claims of inconsistencies in the Scriptures…but only the JW’s have a little black answer book 😛

The solution to:
Who was Joseph’s father?
Jacob - Matt. 1:16
Heli - Luke 3:23

I studied this some time ago and determined the Peshitta holds the answer.

As I remember, Matthew records the genealogy of Mary, and Luke is recording that of Joseph. In one list “Joseph” refers to Mary’s father and the other “Joseph” refers to her husband.

I forget the explanation as to why a husband would be included. I think it had something to do with genealogies only including men, but needing to have a geneology of Mary to prove the flesh was descended from David. Also, the words translated from Aramaic are close enough to make an error in the Greek and result in using the same Greek word when there were actually two different Aramaic words.
