:D:D nothing more depressing than organizing and emptying suitcases after a long trip.
Id like to patten a sloping cement floor with a drain at the bottom of it. That way you can just spray everything down with the hose, maybe sometimes even the kids.

patent, not petten. Patten was a general wasnt he.
Genius idea, right? 😃
Love it! Have had fantasies of doing something similar set up just outside the back door - hose them down well, use one of those big quick dry fans then let them in…kids, pets, relatives…all good 😃

Another thread here asks about how one defines luxury. I know I am living in luxury right now based on what I just found. I feel both blessed and guilty.

I went to fold one of the baskets of clean laundry the kids had left (they’ve been pretty good about doing enough laundry to keep us going…just not folding/putting away) and I discovered the entire basket (approx. 3.5 cubic feet) was all unmatched socks.

175 unmatched socks to be exact. Now this doesn’t include the socks we have in drawers or are in the piles of laundry to be washed.

Apparently it was easier for them to toss the mismates, worn out ones, too small ones, etc back into the laundry and then into this basket “to be matched later” rather than decide they were ready for the rag bag or to be given away. And apparently it was easier for me to just see they were getting low on decent socks and pick up another pack (I work retail and between discounts and clearance this might be only $1 or $2 for a multi-pak).

I am so shaking my head right now at myself. Good news is I’ve matched up quite a few, saved a few damaged ones for cleaning and tossed the rest, and the remainder (after I verify they really don’t have mates and/or are too small for us) are going to a friend who ministers to the homeless. Heck, once I do a count, might have quite a few good matched pairs to donate as well at this rate.

So easy to let small things go without monitoring while dealing with big things…still, this got a little out of hand!

I kind of went through a sort of guilt recently when I cleaned out my closet and realized the rather “astronomical” number of purses I had collected over the years. I didn’t buy all of them, some were gifts, but I did buy quite a few, and never bothered to donate the ones I was not using. I guess things can easily get ahead of us. I donated a large trash bag full to the local charity, but then my daughter went and bought me another purse for Christmas, my mother gave me one she did not care for but I liked, and a friend bought me one just because I admired hers. And then I discovered a Vera Bradley outlet near my daughter’s house…😃

Oh, wow.

Got the steps tidied up and swept and put the Cds on the shelves. Husband can alphabetize them later. After he cleans the bathroom. I even switched around some new photos into frames to acknowledge the fact that we now have two children. (Better late than never.) Now I just have our room and the kitchen. I don’t know why our room is always last. It’s the staging area for every project!

My kids too, are guilty of putting any clothes they don’t want to put away properly- whether dirty OR clean, into the laundry hampers. It makes me crazy when I see clothes they have only worn for a couple of hours in the dirty laundry baskets! I found a way to solve this though. We have 4 enormous hampers at the end of our hallway. One is for white clothes, one is for light colors, another for dark colors/denims and the last for reds/dark pinks. Over the course of several days, I wash and dry the clothes in the hampers and empty thr loads straight from the dryer to a basket. On Saturdays the kids and I sit in the middle of whichever room is cleanest and we sort out all those baskets of clean clothes. We sort the clothes into big piles. George’s pile is in the back, Michael’s pile is by the chair, etc. There are clothes flying all around the room. When the baskets are emptied the kids and I go to our piles to hang and fold them. Then the kids have to put them away in their own rooms. So, ultimately they have to hang up all their clothes anyway, before it went in the laundry or after it was unnecessarily washed.

I’m glad you got some stuff done yesterday. I hope today you can spend some restful time with your family.

Oh, the thing that helps me with our crazy, messy days (I have 3 boys and a girl too. Teenage and elementary school age) is this simple prayer that I reflect on and repeat to myself frequently, “Jesus, with your help I can get this all done. I can do anything!! But without your help, I can’t do anything.” It’s amazing what you can accomplish!

Thank you! Yes, today is going to be much more relaxed. 🙂 I feel so much better now as I walk on clear carpets past clean surfaces. Still have some of that obnoxious “adult homework” (aka bills/mail) to do but the general house is in good shape.

Going to make a serious note of that prayer.

Thanks again!
CJ

Funny!

That term explains so much.
