I was reading an article on the false prophet Joseph Smith and the basis of the article was all those that in some way or another predicted the coming of Christ. It had examples ranging from Aristotle to Kings to some guys in China. I doubt anyone could find the original article (an open challenge exists) but at the least what is it am I trying to describe and what are the references for these predictions?

I should say they predicted a generic Messaiah* but in somewhat of the form in which Christ came.

God, Himself, predicted the Messiah. He is the first to do so.

Genesis 3:15 is referred to as the Protoevangelium (“first gospel”) which contains the first announcement of the Messiah and Redeemer. Source: Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition, paragraphs 410-411.
