I just saw discussion of a new book by Prof. Arthur Brooks entitled “Who Really Cares?” He is said to be an authority on charitable giving and has written about it in this book. He cites a scientific survey that says that Republicans give 30% more to charity than Democrats and that those represented in the poll earned 6% less than the Dems. I think this was interesting since we often hear that the Republicans are only for the rich.

I misspoke. The findings were that conservatives did more charitable giving than liberals. Sorry for the confusion.

Political Conservatives think that charity is a personal responsibility not a government one, thus less taxes and less government involvement. Political Liberals think the Government is the agency behind charity, thus more taxes to pay for more government involvement.

So if one is taxed by 45% and that tax money goes for socialized medicine and a welfare state and the tax payer is in agreement with the ideas, then he can say referring to charity - Good the government is taking care of it I don’t have to worry about it. This doesn’t suggest Political Liberals don’t care. It’s just two different views of looking at how to care for the poor.

however he also found that conservatives also donate more of their TIME than liberals. Yet, those of us who are conservative are rich elitist snobs  :whacky:

same here. making $18K per year, my conservative vote is solely based on all the riches I’m rolling in daily (my family, obviously not my money)

The liberals think that the government can run things better than individuals. They can’'t even run the post office. And I, for one, do not want socialized medicine. I almost died in a country with socialized medicine and what happened to me would never have happened in the states. As far as I am concerned, the less we have government running our lives, as the writers of the Constitution intended, the better.
