Who would have thought? (my new opinion on the NAB)

i was reading the NAB and have been, im basically done with Luke. i have the Comparative Catholic New Testament.

i used to think the NAB was kinda…well, not written so smoothly. so ive been reading a lot of the RSV-CE and i like it. it is worded more reader friendly in my opinion. i love that it doesnt pay attention to the feminists.

but after reading the same passage, next to eachother, the NAB is so much more informative. theres so much more to it. the NAB is a little more wordy, the sentences are kind of longer. but within those sentences, is so much more info.

i feel like the RSV-CE, even though it is claimed to be most accurate, i feel like a lot of what our faith believes in was taken out. which leads to misunderstanding. The RSV-CE shows nothing on what was going on in Israel during the times of Jesus

maybe its because of the notes on the side?

we will see when the Ignatius Study Bible comes out in April.

now i have also read some of the NIV just for sh**s and giggles, and i dont consider the NAB to be on the same level of the NIV. the NAB has so much more to it than the NIV and it is written better.

I look forward to the Ignatius Study Bible New Testament when it comes out.

I really don’t like the NAB. The RSV2CE is more accurate and will have much better notes.

yeah…i wanted to add that in.

im talking about a regular NAB and a regular RSV-CE(2). the little bit of notes in the NAB is nice to have. i didnt see any contradiction in the notes, but i did see they stayed away from making notes on verses that could be used against us, such as the one on not making lengthy prayers. you and i know the lengthy prayers a pagan does during rituals is long, sometimes taking days and even in judiasm, there are many very wordy prayers that are long…praying for 10 minutes on the rosary is not lengthy, whats the longest prayer said in mass, the nicene creed? that takes what a minute or 2? but it would have been nice to see.

i know a regular NAB, or even a NAB study bible has nothing on the Navarre Bible. i think that once the RSV-CE2 is released in one volume as a study bible, and once more people become familiar with the Navarre bible it will be more popular.

i wonder which will be more insightful, the RSV-CE2 Study Bible or the Expanded NT of the Navarre Bible.

but lets face, walking into a borders or barnes and noble your gonna find 2 types of catholic bibles in there…NAB and NRSV…IF YOUR LUCKY youll find an ignatius RSV-CE, usually its the zippered compact one. and out of those, i think the NAB is the most beneficial because of its notes over the NRSV or RSV-CE. im lucky i have an amazing catholic store near me that isnt too far away.
