I am a “Certified marian Catecheist” mentored by the late Father John A. Hardon S.J., may he rest in peace.

I’m a life long Catholic and have spent thousands of hours learning our faith.

I don’t often get stumped, but here’s one for you.

I am part of our RCIA Team, and at last nights class, we were discussing before class, the “miracalous River Plane landing of yesterday.”

The question was asked if God had “anything to do with the wonderful event?”

Before I could reply, Father replied…“God does’nt get involved is such personal issues.”

My understanding is that everything, everything big, and everything small, everything, is either caused by God, or permitted by God, for our possible Salvation, and God’s greater Glory.

Obviously God can only cause Good, and yet we know He permits evil, pain and sickness.

I kept my mouth shut, and will not confront him on this, but who is correct?

I don’t want to be sharing anything not in full comformity to RCC teaching.

God bless you and thanks,
Pat

Hi,

You might have asked Father what impersonal issues the Lord does get involved in. Every issue involving human beings is a personal issue–if the very hairs on one’s head as numbered. If Father didn’t know, he should have said so.

Fr. Vincent Serpa, O.P.

Oh, you’re correct!
