I don’t plan to name names here. You may fill in the blanks on your own. But it does seem to me that the main weakness of the Catholic Church in America (and elsewhere) is that it is not militant enough. I’m not just talking about solving problems like clerical pedophilia and abortion. There are a hundred other ways that bishops seem to exercise no direct authority on Catholic institutions … the colleges and universities, for examples … or Catholic individuals who need to be publicly censured for promoting abortion on demand.

Are the bishops ever going to get bold and brassy enough to assert the voice of Christ loudly among their flock, or are we just going to get this everlasting acquiesence to the triump of evil with a mild collective letter every decade or so.

Perhaps you should voice your concerns to your bishop.
Amen.

Canon 212 §1. Conscious of their own responsibility, the Christian faithful are bound to follow with Christian obedience those things which the sacred pastors, in as much as they represent Christ, declare as teachers of the faith or establish as rulers of the Church. §2. The Christian faithful are free to make known to the pastors of the Church their needs, especially spiritual ones, and their desires. §3. According to the knowledge, competence, and prestige which they possess, they have the right and even at times the duty to manifest to the sacred pastors their opinion on matters which pertain to the good of the Church and to make their opinion known to the rest of the Christian faithful, without prejudice to the integrity of faith and morals, with reverence to their pastors, and attentive to common advantage and the dignity of persons.

We live in a Protestant, secular and somewhat anti-Catholic nation here in the good ‘ol USA. Our bias news media reports the anti-Catholic story as if fact and rarely reports positive on Christ’s Catholic Church.

I see His Catholic Church making a statement loud and clear. She has condemned abortion, homosexuality, abortive birth control, sexual promiscuity, death penalties (in the USA), etc… She has stood by marriage, human rights, helping the poor, etc. Just because our anti-Catholic bias media does not report fairly on Christ’s body, His Catholic Church, does not mean the Church is not promoting His agenda. It means our bias, Protestant, secular media edits the story to promote their agenda.

I see a US Catholic Church that is vibrant and leading the sheep on tough issues. Some in the Church may not follow the lead though. Perhaps you need to find Catholic papers and magazines and get active in Pro-Life groups and volunteer at Catholic Charities to see the great things Christ’s Catholic body IS doing right here in the USA!

Remember Terri Schivo(sp)? As I recall the Catholic Church was the lead voice in saving her. A priest was by her side. A priest was next to the family in interviews. The Pope supported her. JPII set the example on how to die shortly after her death.

I think you just choose to let the scales cover your eyes. Perhaps we could do more but we are doing a great deal now.
Hum, this forum is another great example of our Faith in action too!👍
