Why do we have Apologetics? Why are we apoligizing?. Do we need to run around doing this? It is good to explain our faith and answer questions, the more the better but apoligize?

I’m always apologizing. Take that any way you wish.

I believe that there are just as many people out there trying really hard to confuse and mislead as many as they can about the Catholic Faith. It has to be countered somehow. The Scriptures do tell us to always be ready to give and account of our Faith.

We do not apoligize, we explain. Do not confuse the modern useage of the word to only mean that you are sorry for something. I believe that what was once called apologetic is now called fundamental theology, but I could be wrong.

Apologetics: (1) The branch of theology that is concerned with defending or proving the truth of Christian doctrines.
(2) Formal argumentation in defense of something, such as a position or system.

I’ve never apoligized for being catholic, and only on these forums have I heard, I try to explain, but apologize no !!!

In the truest sense, rather than the modern sense, of the word, I have dedicated my life to apologizing for the Catholic Church. This means that I have dedicated myself to the study and application of theology that seeks to explain and defend the claims of Catholicism, that it is the one, holy, universal, apostolically decended body of Christ.

I’m really glad you received you answer Jimm. I wanted to explain the difference, as best I could with my limited knowledge - of course there is the dictionary - but I was unable to post anything, because my activation email hadn’t arrived.

Well, it depends …

I think that there is more than one way to defend faith. Sometimes the verbal method is the best. Other times the way we live our faith (sometimes in a silent way), is a good proof to others that we have found something in catholic faith, that is not to be found in other christian churches!

After all we have the real presence in the Eucarist! 👍

:blessyou:
